Eltham’s renowned cultural and artistic centre has appointed Matt Jones as its new Chief Executive Officer. With a wealth of experience in artistic programming and creative sector management, Jones is set to lead Montsalvat into its next phase of strategic evolution.
During his tenure as General Manager Program and Events at Federation Square, Jones successfully oversaw the delivery of over 2,000 annual events and activations. His long list of career accomplishments also includes providing consultancy services for many high-profile projects such as the Market Square Development at Queen Victoria Market, Prahran Square development, and Bunjil Place program activation.
“We are delighted to have Matt join our team,” Dr Catherine Dale, Montsalvat Board Chair said. “He brings an outstanding set of relevant artistic and business skills and expertise. I know that Matt will bring an innovative and dynamic leadership focus… and will very competently lead the organisation’s next phase of strategic growth, while also continuing to nurture and manage the day-to-day operations.
“Montsalvat is a historically significant, complex and multi-stakeholder organisation and Matt will bring a positive cultural framework and constructive stakeholder engagement to all of our partners and supporters: government, artists, community, patron, donors, volunteers in all areas including cultural, creative and commercial.”
Asked what drew him to Montsalvat, Jones says that Montsalvat is at a unique crossroads and it was too irresistible to pass up the opportunity to steer its next phase. He said “I am thrilled to have the privilege of leading the next chapter of Montsalvat’s evolution. Montsalvat is a true one-of-a-kind… and I look forward to both celebrating its illustrious past, and leading its many exciting contemporary programs.”
Jones already has a strong feel and clear understanding of the challenges and opportunities presented at Montsalvat. He talks about fresh initiatives around visitor experience and clarity about what is on offer. His vision and leadership are anticipated to shape the organisation’s direction and strengthen its standing as a cultural hub.
Jones says he respects the tenacity of Montsalvat’s pioneering community and intends for its legacy to thrive. Possibly he has some tenacious plans of his own to achieve this.
