Local enterprise is nothing to ‘kid’ about

I founded Naturally Goat in 2015 at age 15 out of a desire to help my mother’s skin.  She suffered from dry, sensitive skin and psoriasis on her hands and arms, and was no longer able to use any soap or skincare products – not even the so-called “natural” ones.

I created my first batch of goat milk soap in January 2015. The soap was a great success for Mum’s hands. Friends and family saw the difference and asked for some too. At that point, I realised there was a need for healthy, gentle soap.

I could not find any soap recipe using high quality, food-grade ingredients without fillers or chemicals, so I spent two years perfecting my own formulation, and eventually the recipe which many people tried and loved. Through this, Naturally Goat was born.

It grew, and I started expanding into different products such as laundry powder, moisturisers and liquid soaps. It took hours formulating my own recipes until they worked to my standards, while only using natural ingredients. Determination to get the shampoo right, once meant five showers in one day so I could test each batch!

As the business grew to a new level in 2019. With thanks to our graphic designer, website technician and social media coordinator and my family, I rebranded the business. Since then, I have been continuing to develop Naturally Goat, entering retail stores and now exploring the export market.

From body wash, hair care and moisturisers to cleansers, exfoliants, lip balms and so much more, we now have more than 200 products.

We started Naturally Kid with a range of products specially formulated for babies and toddlers. A request for dog shampoo sparked the idea for our pet care range, Naturally Pooch. Soon after, we launched Naturally Enviro, an all-natural household cleaner.

We believe in simplicity and using ingredients in their pure form to nourish and cleanse our skin without adding synthetic ingredients. NO sodium lauryl sulfate. NO Palm Oil. NO parabens. NO derivatives. NO artificial colours or fragrances. NO titanium dioxide.

Our passion is to provide a healthy and enjoyable skincare regimen that is suitable for all skin types, without unnecessary ingredients or harm done to animals and the environment.

Our products are made without excessive processing. We use full cream goat’s milk, not powdered or watered down.

The milk is from our own herd of well-loved dairy goats on our family farm in St. Andrews. We’ve chosen a different approach to farming and we’re on a mission to show that farming can be done in a respectful, ethical and natural way.

We have been working with the land to increase biodiversity, healthy soil and nutritious grass.  Regenerative agriculture helps to also enhance the water cycle, ecosystem and create resilience to climate change.

I am a big advocate for ethical farming and even launched our very first “ethical farming” themed calendar for 2023.  We  give our goats the best life, love and care we can, to ensure they’re well looked after, and given every chance to thrive.  There are many rescue stories of goats who have come to us after being neglected elsewhere and are now living their best lives on our farm. We believe in “healing, life and rescue” rather than abuse, neglect or euthanasia. The stories of goat rescues and photos of our goats, are on our website – naturallygoat.com.au.

Loving running my own business, led to a love for helping other young people stand up to be leaders and achievers. This includes being involved in the Nillumbik Youth Council and Nillumbik Economic Development Advisory Board where I have been able to be a voice for other young entrepreneurs making a start.

I was honoured to receive “Young Business Leader Of The Year” in the 2022 Nillumbik leader awards.
