Fun for all at the Rotary Eltham Festival

Words by Judy Sharp

All is ready for the revamped Rotary Eltham Festival to be held on Saturday 4 and Sunday 5 March 2023.

2022 threw everyone a curve ball – just when we thought that the Covid-19 induced cancellations of 2020 and 2021 were over, the weather gods thought otherwise.  The spring deluge dashed all our planning for a bumper festival in November and forced its rescheduling.

There are many highlights of the festival which will take place in Alistair Knox Park and Panther Place Eltham. The fireworks at dusk on Saturday evening are always a highlight. Come and enjoy the carnival atmosphere, the many food options available, family musical entertainment and rides while awaiting the fireworks display at dusk (about 9pm).

As usual, there will be several stages of music to cater for all tastes. Starting on Saturday at noon, children’s performers including Tim Credible will keep the small fry entertained until 4pm. MC Craig Huggins from Gold 104.3 FM will be on hand to introduce our evening performances including the Gami Gami Devils and Redline.

Sunday will see an eclectic mix of rock, blues and jazz on the main stage, including Joel Quinn and band and Sam + Sam at 3pm.

New this year is the Buskers Tent, giving emerging musicians the opportunity to display their talents on a stage. The Buskers Tent is located in Alistair Knox Park on Sunday, 5 March.

There will be family favourites such as free rides for smaller kids, Farmer Darryl’s Mobile Animal Farm, the carnival for older children, roving entertainers, face painting, a rock wall for the adventurous on Sunday and lots of activities to keep the whole family happy.

Also new to the Rotary Eltham Festival will be the Clean Futures Zone brought to you by Clean Energy Nillumbik. Considering energy efficient appliances, solar panels, or home electric vehicle charging? Take advantage of the array of businesses and organisations all in one place to answer your questions.

Sadly owing to Council works around the Eltham Central Park oval, we will not be able to have the ‘Have a Go Oval’ nor the community stage. But the district Scouts will be on hand with a range of activities including archery, a giant swing and more.  Little Sports Heroes will be on hand in the park.

The festival would not be able to go ahead without the support of our very generous sponsors. The Rotary Club of Eltham acknowledges the support of Nillumbik Shire Council and major sponsors Bendigo Bank, Morrison Kleeman Estate Agents and Eltham Leisure Centre as well as many other local businesses.
